Creating the 3333 image images on the Bitcoin blockchain costs $66,000. Taproot Wizards, an Ordinals developer, is unveiling a new collection of nonfungible tokens (NFTs) on the Bitcoin blockchain.
The initiative is an honour to code created in the Bitcoin network’s early days by developer Satoshi Nakamoto. Udi Wertheimer, Taproot Wizard’s co-founder, told a media outlet that ‘OP_CAT’ is an old ‘opcode’ in Bitcoin that Satoshi unveiled in the initial release but afterwards disabled.
Features of Quantum Cats
OP_CAT is shorthand for ‘concatenate’ in technical terms. In other words, it is a means of combining two strings of text. Despite the disabling, Udi noted the OP_CAT Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP) empowers ‘covenants,’ permitting the development of bridges and smart contracts on Bitcoin.
The possibility of using OP_CAT to make Bitcoin quantum-resistant resulted in naming the suite Quantum Cats. The Quantum Cats Ordinals refers to 3,333 cat images produced using Ordinals Inscriptions.
It acquired its name from Taproot, a Bitcoin upgrade. According to Taproot Wizards, the collection of Quantum Cats cost $66000 to develop. Besides, the Evolving Inscriptions tactic was used in its creation.
Udi noted that they inscribe, in advance, several versions of the cat that grow over time, along with the growth of the OP_CAT proposal process. Inscription was costly since a lot of information was involved. In addition to 3,333 cats, several progressions were applied for every cat.
Taproot Wizards Seek to Expand Operations
Besides being costly, the Quantum Cats collection utilized 10MB of coded on-chain data. One Bitcoin block’s capacity is 1MB. According to Udi, their encryption ensures that nobody sees the nature of future evolutions until they are unveiled.
However, they wanted all evolutions to be dedicated in advance to ensure they evolve by predetermined means. After inscription, the evolutions cannot be affected further since everything is on-chain.
Taproot Wizard notes that a unique version of the Ordinal, referred to as ‘Genesis Cat’ by FAR, a digital artist, is being sold at Sotheby’s from Friday up to Jan. 22. Similar to Ethereum-founded nonfungible token art, Ordinal Inscriptions are Bitcoin blockchain’s digital art.
Since the protocol’s unveiling in January 2023, more than 50 million Ordinal Inscriptions have been produced. Images, meme coins, text, video games, and videos are examples of inscriptions on the Bitcoin blockchain.
In December 2023, Phantom, a famous Solana wallet, boosted support for Ordinals, RBC-20 tokens, and Bitcoin. On X (formerly Twitter), Phantom noted that Solana, Web3, or Ethereum would not exist without Bitcoin. As such, they appreciate Bitcoin and are excited to unveil it on Phantom.
Bitcoin Experiences Extrapotential Growth
Bitcoin detractors and purists continue criticizing the Ordinals. In this case, they are using the term ‘spam’ to refer to the digital artifacts consuming space on the network. When asked what Udi would say to Ordinal detractors, he said he would thank them for hosting his JPEGS on their nodes.
Eric Wall, Taproot Wizards’ co-founder, said the situation is complex. In this case, Ordinals has introduced a new art form inside the Bitcoin blocks.
Two months ago, Taproot Wizards publicized the raise of $7.5M in funding managed by Standard Crypto, a venture capital company. Bitcoin Frontier Fund, StarkWare, Newman Capital, and UTXO management were also part of this raise.
Eric said that despite the possibility of their methods being unconventional, they intend to drag their peers to the non-custodial and scalable future they believe Bitcoin warrants. He also noted that for them, the Quantum Cats collection and OP_CAT are the ambition’s focus.
