After months of updates on the MakerDAO protocol, the process is almost coming to an end, according to the project’s co-founder, Rune Christensen. He says the last step involves building a native blockchain for MakerDAO called NewChain.
Christensen found himself in a controversy after he revealed that he was exploring the prospect of using Solana’s codebase to develop NewChain. The co-founder explained two key reasons why he thought the move was a good idea. Firstly, he said the Solana blockchain was resilient when crypto exchange FTX Collapsed last November. Secondly, Christensen claimed that several crypto projects that have forked Solana in the past have been successful.
If MakerDAO’s native blockchain gets built using Solana’s technology, it would mean that the project has dumped Ethereum for its long-time rival. Solana and Ethereum supporters have been attacking each other for years, with Anatoly Yakovenko, the founder of Solana, once telling CNBC that Ethereum was too slow to facilitate Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Payments.
That said, Christensen’s support for Solana has not sat well with Ethereum proponents. One X user, who is seemingly an Ethereum supporter, told the MakerDAO co-founder that his project’s user base is made up of Ethereum users and, therefore, adopting Solana’s codebase would be a wrong move.
Solana Founder Urges Network Users Not to Attack Ethereum
Meanwhile, Yakovenko hasn’t thrown shade at Ethereum this time around. In fact, while appreciating Christensen for considering Solana’s technology, he told the network’s community not to attack Ethereum users. Yakovenko went ahead to reveal that the Ethereum research and development partly inspired his project’s tech stack.
Nonetheless, some Solana users told Yakovenko to stop being “too soft” on the Ethereum blockchain.
The peace-keeping effort by the Solana founder was appreciated by Kudelski security analyst Matias Barrios. He said toxic rivalry would hinder innovation. Barrios added that blockchains should aim at interconnecting with each other to establish a global multichain economy. He also told crypto users who don’t like seeing their favorite networks working with others to return to the Bitcoin blockchain.
Barrios ended his remarks by saying that the Solana ecosystem stands to benefit significantly if MakerDAO adopts its codebase.
