After generating $1.5M in 2023, Anichess is playable with backing from Chess.com and Magnus Carsen, an acclaimed chess grandmaster.
An announcement by Animoca Brands shows that Anichess is in the initial stage of its unveiling. Currently, it is partnering with Chess.com and Magnus Carlsen, a five-time World Chess Champion, to unveil a free-to-play browser game.
Developers Finalize ‘Anichess’ NFT Game
The game’s earlier version provides a single-player experience. An online player-vs-player (PVP) mode will be incorporated sometime during the first quarter of this year.
In a statement, Yat Siu, Animoca Brands co-founder and chairman, noted that Anichess transforms the classic royal game by merging traditional strategy and gameplay with spellcasting’s innovative aspects, a Web3 functionality, and a fantasy storyline.
Carlsen also remarked on the new game, referring to it as an ‘inspirational chess experience.’ Anichess refers to a chess-founded strategy game comprising magical spells and nonfungible tokens (NFTs) called Orbs of Power.
To collect Orb nonfungible tokens for free, players must link their crypto wallet to the game and later complete everyday puzzle tasks. Various types of Orbs with a different chess piece and element linked to them, for instance, a ‘king of aether’ and a ‘pawn of water’ exist.
Anichess Plans to Intergrate Moca IDs
According to a statement, players can utilize the Orbs to unlock more challenges that can result in more rewards. In August last year, the Orbs were unveiled on Polygon, an Ethereum scaling network. OKX NFT data shows more than 33700 Matic (approximately $28500) in total volume have been traded.
Besides, Anichess will also provide a Moca ID integration for persons who have acquired IDs from Mocaverse, Animoca Brands’ loyalty platform. In a late December blog post, the Anichess team revealed that ‘spell chess puzzle’ accomplishments will continue in the game’s future.
However, it failed to stipulate what that would seem like. Further, the game’s team noted it intends to develop a mode promoting PVP tournaments and gameplay.
In June last year, Anichess generated $1.5M in seed funding from Koda Capital, The Operating Group, GameFi Ventures, 708 Capital, and others.
