Israel’s intelligence service has been faulted for utilizing crypto to enrol undercover agents. According to Turkish authorities, the nation aims to hunt and capture Palestinians residing there. A Tuesday report revealed that according to Ali Yerlikay, Turkey’s interior minister, 34 persons associated with Mossad were detained after nationwide raids.
A senior Turkish official noted that suspects ‘participated in observation, reconnaissance, violence, abduction activities, and plans focusing on foreign residents in Turkey on behalf of Mossad.’
Israel Disguised Hamas Pursuit in Turkey
According to a news agency, the Turkish official asserts that Mossad paid recruits via live couriers, intermediaries, and crypto. This reduced the possibility of finds being tracked back to the agency.
The official also noted that online job listings requested recruits to plant GPS devices in vehicles, take photos of targets, and aid Israeli agents ‘for their final mission.’ Mossad allegedly trained suspects overseas and maintained frequent contact with them through encrypted messaging networks.
The nation’s government counter-terrorism and intelligence agencies carried out the raids, and reports reveal the seizure of an unlicensed firearm, ‘digital materials,’ and €150000 ($165000).
Strains between Israel and Turkey have intensified after the war in Gaza. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Turkey’s president, said Israel would ‘pay a significant price’ if it tried to kill Hamas members in Turkey. This is because they are not considered as extremists.
Israel-Hamas War Yield Divergent Views
Earlier, Erdoğan equated Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, to Adolf Hitler. Netanyahu responded by asserting that Erdoğan cannot advocate for morality since the president is tasked with executing the Kurds.
Besides, he holds the ‘global record for incarcerating journalists.’ This most recent allegation of Israeli surveillance in Turkey has escalated concerns of a more significant conflict in the Middle East.
Earlier, Najib Mikati, Lebanese prime minister, faulted Israel for trying to involve it in a regional conflict after Saleh al-Arouri, a Hamas leader, was murdered in a drone strike in southern Beirut.
