Raini Studios, behind the Lords of Light game, is now jointly owned by crypto infrastructure specialist Ceden alongside Kanpai Pandas. The firm behind the non-fungible token game would now operate as a joint venture following its successful acquisition.
In its Wednesday announcement, the NFT collection firm Kanpai Pandas confirmed partnering with Ceden to acquire Raini Studios. The statements issued by both firms indicated that Raini Studios would run as a joint venture as they unveiled the development of an unnamed combat game.
In a Wednesday, December 13 post, the Raini team revealed that the new joint venture would operate as RJV International DBA Raini Studios.
Entire Raini Workforce Retained Post-Acquisition
The post indicated that RST would consolidate previously autonomous RAINI and PHOTON tokens. RST would run on the Avalanche-based subnetwork Beam, which CoinGecko classifies as a gaming network. The consolidation is occurring days after the token was deployed late last month.
The three teams confirmed via Twitch stream that they are working collaboratively to develop a game dubbed the largest-ever combat game IPs. The parties were noncommittal on the IP name, with Ceden co-founder Michael Haller assuring to convey more details in the future.
The lead designer at Raini, Marty Burgess, confirmed his absorption into the larger studio. He indicated the retention of the entire Raini workforce post-acquisition of the gaming studio.
Raini Studios is primarily popular for the digital trading card-based game identified as Raini: The Lords of Light. The game offers a free-to-pay yet Hearthstone-like gaming experience with multiple crypto memes and optional NFT cards.
Ceden chief executive Alex Moody will steer the studio post-acquisition. The new joint venture is counting on former Electronic Arts employee Haller to head the gaming. The new owners hailed Haller’s experience on English-based Akira and Ghost in the Shell to lead the team developing the combat game.
Moody urged the gamers in the news conveyed on Wednesday in a Twitch stream to consider it an additive, though a Raini Studios plus. Burgess echoed the pronouncement, referring to the acquisition as the perfect opportunity to sustain the Raini team.
Kanpai chief executive Josh McClean expressed optimism about the team’s success by betting on a potential loss of 2%. Gaming industry veteran Haller lauded the Raini team for their demonstrated capability, which is evident in the Lords of Light rollout. He labeled the game as elegantly complex, aided by the superior code.
Raini to Sustain Cross-Chain Integration Post-Acquisition
Raini has historically run a multi-chain crypto ecosystem, guaranteeing Avalanche and BNB Chain compatibility. The team is destined to advance into the Avalanche ecosystem. In particular, the RST token would run on the Avalanche subnet Beam. Besides, the RST liquidity pools would still run on Avalanche and Ethereum-based decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms.
The post-acquisition studio would retain the cross-chain compatibility by leveraging the LayerZero integration. Such is projected to permit traders to convert existing Raini tokens into RST.
Burgess revealed in the blog post that the team is working on a cross-chain integration targeting Lords of Light card parks. The ongoing task targets permit players to hold NFTs on their preferred chain.
Raini Team Targets Broader Gaming Audience
The Lords of Light would retain its current listing on the Epic Games Store. It is a coincidence that such occurred when Immutable’s NFT card-based game Gods Unchained was booted from the platform. Its removal is linked to the ESRB’s Adults Only rating. The rating is linked to this game, offering winning players crypto tokens and NFTs with real-world value.
Raini seeks an expanded scope for the next game to win over audiences beyond the crypto ecosystem. Accomplishing this objective would be challenging, considering onboarding blockchain games on conventional game launchers is tough. Besides, the crypto games are finding it difficult to align with the broader game requirements.
