Monster non fungible token (NFT) characters in Axie Infinity, a play-to-earn game, can shortly be improved. This is because of a significant update that introduces a ‘Stage 2’ evolution to each Axie monster.
The game’s creators at Sky Mavis have disclosed information to a media outlet. More than 250 Axie ‘parts’ can be advanced on any Axie nonfungible token starting December 14, enhancing the visual appearance and battle strength of the character.
Sky Mavis Converting Axies into Digital Collectibles
In an interview, Jeffrey ‘Jiho’ Zirlin, Sky Mavis co-founder, said they are converting Axies into digital collectibles that change as one plays with them. This has been their vision’s center for more than five years. The successful nonfungible token game, which involves players using cards to fight Axies against enemy Axies, was initially launched in 2018.
From that time, Axie Infinity and its wider Ronin blockchain ecosystem have witnessed a significant number of players experiencing an astounding $622M hack. Six months afterward, nearly $30M of the funds has been recouped.
Zirlin compared the axolotl-resembling Axie nonfungible tokens to the CryptoKitties nonfungible token suite unveiled on Ethereum’s mainnet in 2017. He said that in comparison to a CryptoKitty, an Axie seemed to be living.
Further, the Axie team will unveil a 20-page comic as well as an animated video explaining the lore linked to the Axie improvements. In this comic, Bing and Ema should locate ‘spirit shellers,’ which entails the spirits of creatures in Lunacia’s Axie world. Later, Bing finds the Atia Temple, a unique location where Axies’ evolution can happen.
NFT Owners to Improve Preferred Axie
NFT owners can improve their Axies by ‘burning’ other Axies or using crafting materials, eliminating them from the blockchain completely to improve their preferred Axie. For one part to evolve, players must get to level 10 and be ascended.
Only a single Axie part can be changed at a time. Afterward, players will begin their evolution process by using ‘mementos’ and radiant spirit shells corresponding to their Axie’s type, and this will take 36 hours to complete. Mementos are blob-resembling objects in different categories, including Bug, Beast, Dawn, Aquatic, and Bird.
Documents from Sky Mavis show that gamers intending to hasten the waiting time must pay an additional 200% in material costs to have their Axie part grow immediately. Zirlin said that over the last year, they had witnessed disasters involving nonfungible token projects requiring funding or communities wanting new content to enable them to mint a new collection.
The situation would significantly impact their NFTs’ markets. Zirlin also said that changing and dynamic NFTs permit developers to unveil new content without expanding their initial collections’ supply.
Undoubtedly, a vast Axie NFTs supply exists. At the time of writing, the official marketplace data showed more than 11.9 million Axie NFTs. These NFTs were distributed across 1.9 million various crypto wallets. One can purchase some Axie NFTs worth a few dollars using Ethereum, while the rest can be purchased for several dollars.
Axie Infinity NFTs to Maintain Level-2 Form
Zirlin shared that Masamune, Axie’s artist, drew each ‘evolved’ Axie part that players can find. It should be noted that upgrading Axie parts to the next level can only be done to those particular parts. This means they cannot be upgraded to another random part completely. Further, enhanced Axie nonfungible tokens will maintain their level-2 form in all Axie games, meaning it will not be explicit to Axie Infinity.
Zirlin said all Axie games will be combined via a standard progression system, crafting material, and experience points. Vertical progression is yet to be appropriately implemented in nonfungible tokens. This year, Sky Mavis has expanded the Axie brand and continued introducing more game developers to Ronin.
In November, the shift of the Pixels browser game to Ronin aided in reigniting interest in the title. Further, Sky Mavis eased its commercial utilization limitations on some Axie nonfungible tokens, permitting occasional Axie owners to use their NFT IP to unveil their projects.
